Coloured photographic illustrations and black line-drawn men and women's clothing patterns, 40pp, text in simplified Chinese characters, 36.5 x 25.5cm, original colour pictorial paper wrapper a little worn and marked, numbers written in ink upper wrapper. Verso of lower wrapper shows a proportional chart for garment cutting. In good condition overall, photographic illustrations very clear with bright colours. Good copy.

Each page features a photographic illustration of a person modelling a functional practical garment in an everyday work context. Below the image are details about measurements, the amount of fabric required and also a diagram for cutting and laying out a paper pattern. At a time when fabric was rationed and families were encouraged to economise by making their own clothes this publication would have been very useful.

The publisher, Tianjin Heping District Fourth Sewing Cooperative, was a collective production unit. In the planned economy of the 1970s, such cooperatives were often community centres for skills development. They would have aligned themselves with government goals of encouraging domestic handicraft and self-sufficiency. The preface states that the book was produced "to highlight proletarian politics, … promote new socialist fashion, and design simple and popular clothing that is conducive to learning, work, labor, and health for workers, peasants and soldiers"
