Chinese poster sized print called "Dream of Love" by German artist Willem Johannes Martens, depicting a nude female being kissed by an angel, 52.6 x 68cm. Details about the painting and the artist in simplified Chinese characters below. A few minor creases at edges, in very good condition.

According to the caption, Martens was a 19th century German artist born in Holland. In this painting done in Rome, he uses an allegorical romantic European salon style to express people's yearning for and pursuit of love, but focusing here on the most revered form of love - maternal love. Probably printed because of its appeal to the Chinese market during the reform and opening up period in the mid-1980s, it would have been seen as modern and Western rather than risqué, and considered as decorative art for hotels, restaurants and those interested in Western decor.
