The short-lived war led to the annexation of the Konbaung Dynasty into British India, by the proclamation of the Viceroy and Governor-General of India, Lord Dufferin on January 1, 1886 (whose visit is recorded in these engravings). The engravings are captioned: 'Presentation of an Address from Moollah Ismail and the Suratee Community, Read by Mr Melton Prior" and the other "Mandalay Under British Rule: Street Sweepers Going to Work". Two half page wood engravings on a single leaf, each approx. 16.4 x 23.2 cms; 40.6 x 30.8 cms (sheet including captions), related text on the verso, small chip from a lower corner and from the inner margin, small edge tear (no loss), faint edge-toning, but the images in very good condition.
