Padma Menon In Conversation about "Siva in Me"

With Photographer Barbie Robinson
Followed by a Dance Presentation by Padma Menon

Padma Menon recently launched the book "Siva in Me" in collaboration with writer and photographer Barbie Robinson which located the Indian archetype of destruction and dance, Siva, in locations in and around Canberra. The book is a tribute to the idea that the magic of archetypal spaces, which include philosophy, poetry and storytelling, are not exotic and unavailable, but exist in the most ordinary and mundane circumstances around us.

Padma will introduce the archetypal symbolism of Siva and its relevance in our times. She will talk about the philosophy that Siva represents and her personal interpretation of this in our times through her practice, Moving Archetypes. As a space that allows for the co-existence of polarities of creation and destruction, asceticism and sensuousness and death and beginning, Siva invites us to live with complexity and the unknown.

Padma will also perform the dance which inspired the book which paints a portrait of this enigmatic deity in a contemporary style. There will be time for audience questions and reflections.

Barbie is a Canberra based photographer who has worked closely with Padma to bring her thoughts to life through the photos captured for this book.
