We warmly invite you to join us at Asia Bookroom at 3.00 pm on Saturday 31 January to hear Dawa Geljen Sherpa, one of the founders of Classrooms in the Clouds, speak about his life, his community, and the very real impact your support has made.

Dawa grew up in Lukla, where the teachers sponsored through Asia Bookroom continue to teach today. The son of a yak farmer, his childhood was shaped by hardship. When his father died while Dawa was still in primary school, he was forced to leave school to work and help support his family. At that point, it seemed unlikely he would ever complete his education.

While working as a trekking guide in the Everest region, Dawa met a group of international trekkers who shared his belief in the transformative power of education. From these conversations grew a shared commitment to improving schooling in Lukla, and the energy and resolve that led to the founding of Classrooms in the Clouds, which was registered as a charity in August 2007.

In this talk, Dawa will share his personal story, reflect on what donor support has achieved at the school in Lukla, and speak about future plans for education in the region.

Dawa will be introduced by Roads to Rehab Nepal founder Virginia Dixon.
