Burmese History Brought to Life By A Master Storyteller and Historian

Asia Bookroom is thrilled to announce that Thant Myint-U the author of the highly praised "The River of Lost Footsteps. A Personal History of Burma" will speak at Asia Bookroom on the evening of Tuesday May 17 at 6pm. We are very fortunate indeed that Thant Myint-U is able to spare this time while he is visiting Canberra for the Burma/Myanmar Update at the ANU at which he is the key note speaker.

Anyone who has read 'The River of Lost Footsteps' will need no urging to join us to hear Thant Myint-U speak, but if you have not yet had the opportunity I would urge you to come, hear him speak and treat yourself to a signed copy!

The River of Lost Footsteps is an account of Burma's past which includes stories from Thant's own family. This book is one of only a very few books on Burma that every Burma expert or devotee we have asked wholeheartedly recommends as important and very engaging reading - in short a 'must read'. These personal recommendations are also backed up by many very good reviews in the media. In a nutshell if you are interested in Burma or the history and politics of the region in which we live you need to read this book and come to this talk!

'He makes a rich and complex history clear and fascinating" - Nicholas Shakespeare, Daily Telegraph.

'It is hard to imagine a more thought-provoking or eloquently written elucidation of Burma's afflictions and their causes - nor one more heartfelt' - Tarquin Hall, Sunday Times.

'Thant Myint-U's fine book [is] .... part personal memoir, part history and part polemic'. The Economist.
